Sachem Public Library is a great public library is a place for education, engagement, and inspiration. Sachem Public Library fulfills all of that and more for its community. Their most recent Summer Reading Club boasted 3,189 participants across children, teens, and adults. The library has two outdoor spaces, Inside/Out, a registered Public Garden, and Discovery Grove, an outdoor nature classroom for children. Two free annual events take place in their Inside/Out Garden, a spooky walk and a holiday light show. The most recent spooky walk saw 14,000 visitors across four days. The library continues to offer learning, crafting, and recreation activities in person, live on Zoom, and as recorded segments on YouTube. Sachem Public Library patrons can borrow museum passes for free admission to over 30 LI and NYC destinations. Their Library of Things lends nontraditional items such as ukuleles, coin sorters, WiFi hotspots, and more.

Winner of Best Public Library on Long Island in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, Sachem Public Library has come a long way from its origins as an 18-book collection founded by members of the women’s suffrage movement in 1914. In addition to a large and varied collection of materials in all formats, the Library provides award-winning programs throughout the day and evening, 7 days a week, offering enrichment, entertainment, and education for all ages and abilities. The Library’s all-season Inside/Out Garden, located directly across from the main entrance, hosts performances and programs, and features quiet locations where residents can appreciate the beauty of nature. Their café, Tend Coffee, offers organic coffees and delicious fresh-baked pastries. Sachem Public Library is always growing and innovating— The Studio, a place to create, design, and build using the latest in creative technology, opened in 2017. Discovery Grove, an outdoor nature classroom for children, opened in 2018. Although the face of the Library has changed with time, their mission has fundamentally remained the same.
