Since 1992, we have been helping sick and underprivileged children across Long Island in any capacity possible.
The John Theissen Children’s Foundation was established in 1992 after its founder met a young girl while at the hospital getting brain surgery four years prior. The organization’s founder held his first toy drive 28 years ago, to benefit the children in local hospitals. During that first toy drive, the foundation collected over 800 new toys in just two weeks and distributed them to three area hospitals. Since its inception, the organization has collected over one million new toys and distributed them to sick and underprivileged children in over 180 hospitals and child-care facilities. Today, their mission has expanded to provide hospital and child-care facilities with therapeutic and recreational equipment, support families with financial assistance for medical costs and fulfill wish lists of patients 18 and younger.

John Thiessen’s Children’s Foundation is all about giving back to kids who are undergoing treatment at local hospitals and child-care facilities. John founded the nonprofit in 1992, when he was 17 and hospitalized at a local children’s hospital with a brain tumor. He decided to hold a holiday toy drive benefiting children in local hospitals. That first drive was a success, as John collected over 800 new toys in just two weeks and brought them to three different hospitals. That was the beginning of what has become a year round organization. Since then, JTCF has collected over 920,000 new toys and have donated them to sick and underprivileged children in hospitals and child-care facilities. JTCF also donates therapeutic and recreational equipment. Donations have enabled JTCF to provide televisions, video game systems, electronics, arts & crafts supplies and more!
